New Orleans Musica da Camera
www.nomdc.org
New Orleans Musica da Camera is the oldest surviving early music organization in the country, founded in 1966 by director Milton G. Scheuermann, Jr. Researching and performing the music of the 10th through 16th centuries, the group is dedicated to making that music current and living for the listeners of the 21st century. Using historically informed performance techniques and reproductions of period instruments (many built by Scheuermann), they also use their own musical transcriptions from original manuscript sources. The ensemble performs in the culturally diverse neighborhoods in and around the Crescent City and throughout the Gulf South, presenting a variety of performances, lectures and workshops. Vox Feminæ, the women's vocal ensemble of Musica da Camera, was founded in 1994 by St. Julien. This ensemble focuses on medieval songs and chant, with a special interest in music by or about women.
